Sungrow successfully unveils its next-generation residential energy storage system (ESS) at 2025 Southeast Asia Distribution Summit. Featuring the upgraded MG Series inverters, this new solution covers power ranges from 5 kW to 10 kW.
With industry-leading features like full-power operation at 45 °C, active PID recovery, and seamless backup power switching within 4ms, this new solution ensures households stay powered even in extreme climates or unstable grid conditions, designed to meet the rising demand for household energy independence across the region.
The MG5/6RL inverters are already available in the market and are compatible with over 50 third-party batteries, providing flexibility for homeowners. The larger MG8/10RL inverters, along with the newly designed MGL060 battery, are expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The new system is built to grow with users over time. It can scale from 5kW to 80kW by connecting up to eight units in parallel, making it suitable for everything from compact apartments to large homes and future energy expansions. Users can start with a basic setup and expand as needed, whether they are adding batteries later or building a complete off-grid solution.
The system also offers versatile configurations, including options for 'Battery Ready,' where the inverter is installed initially and batteries can be added later, and 'Backup Only,' where the system functions without PV panels and provides reliable power during outages. A single energy port enables three different functions: Load Management, Diesel Generator Coordination, and PV Expansion, giving homeowners intelligent control over various energy scenarios with a simplified setup.
One of the key advantages of the new ESS is its robust backup capability. The hybrid inverter automatically switches to off-grid mode within just 4 milliseconds during a power outage, ensuring that lights stay on and appliances continue to function without interruption.
Despite its compact size, the system can deliver up to 200 percent overload output for 10 seconds, which means high-power appliances like air conditioners and washing machines can run even during blackouts. The system is also engineered to operate quietly, with noise levels as low as 35 dB thanks to Sungrow’s Immersive Silence technology, creating a peaceful home environment.
In terms of performance, the ESS supports up to 200 percent DC input and 160 percent maximum output, allowing simultaneous energy generation and battery charging. For example, a 6kW inverter can produce 6kW of AC output while charging the battery with 3.6kW of DC power. The system supports input currents of up to 20A, making it compatible with a wide variety of PV modules.
It is built to handle extreme temperatures and can maintain full power output even in hot climates, ensuring continuous energy generation and better battery efficiency.
Additionally, Sungrow’s patented PID ZERO® technology allows the system to recover from power degradation caused by heat and humidity without needing disconnection or extra hardware, preserving optimal performance of PV modules for up to 25 years.
The user interface is designed for simplicity and ease of use. A 4.3-inch full-color touchscreen provides real-time data and local control, with commissioning possible in less than 30 seconds without internet access. Dual LED indicators give users a quick visual update on system and battery status. The system also includes a convenient 'Storm Mode,' which allows users to charge batteries quickly from the grid in preparation for severe weather or scheduled outages. For example, a 6kW/6kWh setup can go from 30 percent to full charge in just one hour.
Sungrow is also preparing for future enhancements with the integration of iHomeManager, an AI-powered energy management platform. This system will optimize household energy usage based on consumption habits, weather forecasts, dynamic electricity tariffs, and extreme weather alerts, potentially boosting energy efficiency by more than 12 percent.
Launching in Q4, the new MGL060 battery features large-capacity 314 Ah LFP cells with 8000 cycles (EOL 60 percent), delivering triple the lifespan of average industry offerings. Its pack-level DC/DC energy optimization works like a dedicated optimizer for each cell group, ensuring each operates independently and efficiently, even when new and old batteries are mixed.
