SRK Knowledge Foundation (SRKKF), an arm of India’s leading diamond manufacturer Shree Ramkrishna Exports Pvt Ltd (SRK), said that it would install residential solar rooftops at the homes of 750 martyred soldiers and unsung heroes across the country.

The 750 kW rooftop solar systems would be used to power these homes. The initiative will provide clean and renewable electricity to more than 3,000 people and allow them to save Rs. 2,000 per month on their utility costs. It also supports Goals 7 and 11 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).

The announcement was made during an Independence Day celebration by Govind Dholakia, Founder and Chairman of SRK Knowledge Foundation in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ campaign to celebrate 75 years of India’s independence.

Commenting on the announcement, Govind Dholakia, Founder and Chairman of SRK Knowledge Foundation, said “at SRK, we are committed to protecting our environment, preserving our natural resources, developing socially responsible leaders and giving back to our communities.”

“Our unsung heroes have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom and preserve our wellbeing. We, at the SRK family, are inspired by their patriotism and will never forget the sacrifice made by these heroes and their families. This is why we decided to provide free solar energy to power their homes for their entire lifetime. We hope this pioneering initiative from SRK will inspire other Indian business leaders to also give back to these leaders and their families,” he added.

Earlier in February this year, Shree Ramkrishna Knowledge Foundation joined hands with Surat-headquartered solar panel maker and EPC services provider Goldi Solar for the entire solarization of Dudhala village in Southern Gujarat.

Under the partnership, the company would install 450 kW capacity of solar rooftop projects to power around 350 houses and public areas such as anganwadis and gram panchayat.

Once completed, this would be the first village to be completely powered with solar panels by a foundation, the company said in a statement.

Instead of providing financial aid, the move will empower close to 2,000 lives to earn money from the solar rooftop systems.

For six decades, Shree Ramkrishna Exports Pvt. Ltd (SRK) is a rapidly growing family-run organization with annual revenue of USD 1.8 billion supported by its 6,000 employees. In addition to being the most compliant company in the industry and holding the highest number of ISO certifications, two of its state of art crafting facilities, SRK Empire and SRK House in Surat, are LEED Platinum certified.
