NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam’s auction for setting up 500 MW/1,000 MWh STU-connected standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Rajasthan has attracted an L1 tariff (lowest bid) of INR 2.16 lakh/MW/month.
Solar91 Cleantech, Rays Power Experts, Stockwell Solar Services, Oriana Power and Inox Renewable Solutions have emerged as winners.
Solar91 Cleantech secured 50 MW at a tariff of INR 2.16 lakh/MW/month as the L1 bidder. Rays Power Experts also bagged 50 MW at a tariff of about INR 2.187 lakh/MW/month. Stockwell Solar Services and Oriana Power were awarded 225 MW and 125 MW, respectively, at a tariff of INR 2.189 lakh/MW/month.
Inox Renewable Solutions secured the balance 50 MW at a tariff of INR 2.19 lakh/MW/month, under the bucket filling method.
The tender was floated in March 2025.
The BESS developers will be required to set up a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), with the primary objective of making the energy storage facility available to the NVVN for charging/discharging of the BESS, on an 'on demand' basis.
The projects will be set up under the build, own and operate (BOO) model with Viability Gap Funding (VGF) support of 27 lakh/MWh or 30 percent of the project cost whichever is lower.
Setting up of the BESS and interconnection of the BESS with the STU network including the construction of the Bay will be under the scope of the BESSD.
The BESSD shall make the BESS available for 2 operational cycles per day, i.e. 2 complete charge-discharge cycles per day. The BESSD must guarantee a minimum system availability of 95 percent on a monthly basis.
