Social Alpha Launches The Techtonic Challenge for Clean Energy Startups in India

Social Alpha announced the commencement of the third edition of the “Techtonic – Innovations in Clean Energy” – thereby providing a platform to innovators and entrepreneurs to come up with transformative technologies with affirmative social, economic, and climate impact.

Social Alpha announced the commencement of the third edition of the “Techtonic – Innovations in Clean Energy” – thereby providing a platform to innovators and entrepreneurs to come up with transformative technologies with affirmative social, economic, and climate impact.

With a special focus this year on Energy for Livelihoods; Smart Energy Systems; Energy Storage; and Thermal Comfort, the initiative aims for creative and impactful solutions in the clean technology; affordable, accessible, and user experience based - for deployment in households, manufacturing, agriculture, services, and any other use case.

Both, pre-pilot and post-pilot categories are open for entrepreneurs and innovators.

The pre-pilot category winner will receive physical incubation at Social Alpha-Atal Incubation Centre, set up under Atal Innovation Mission. Further, support from technical and business experts to develop prototype, business model, and minimum viable product (MVP); access to legal, IP, communication, and branding services will be provided to foster growth.

Post-pilot category winners will be incubated at the Clean Energy International Incubation Centre, a joint initiative of Tata Trusts and the GoI. They will gain opportunities for international collaboration through Mission Innovation, a global initiative that aims to accelerate developments in renewable energy; receive product design, testing and development, GTM, and market access support as well.

Some selected startups from both the labs may also receive techno-commercial pilot support by Tata Power’s Pilot Accelerator of up to 25L per startup; scale-up support of up to 1 crore by Social Alpha’s SDG-7 accelerator and Sustain Plus Foundation, and seed funding of up to Rs 1 crore per startup from Social Alpha.

Moreover, participating incubators, accelerators and investors are expected to deploy collectively over Rs 20 crore over a period of 24 months.

Speaking about the motive of the challenge, Manoj Kumar, Founder and CEO of Social Alpha said, “our energy portfolio has demonstrated the potential to avoid more than 200 million tonnes of Co2 emissions collectively by 2030, as assessed by the globally accepted Net-Zero Compatible Innovation Assessment Framework. Climate Change is the biggest threat confronting humanity today. Through this Techtonic, we are offering multistage venture development support to Clean Energy Innovators as they combat climate crisis.”
