SJVN's Flagship Nathpa Jhakri Power Station awarded for a Meritorious Performance

It has established a record power generation of 7610 MU during the year 2011-12 and generated 6777 MU during the 2011-12

For its meritorious performance during the year 2011-12 and 2012-13 India's largest 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station has been awarded 'Bronze Shield' and 'Silver Shield' respectively by the Ministry of Power, Government of India. The prestigious awards were presented by Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Hon'ble Minister of State for Power (I/C) today to Shri R.P. Singh, CMD of Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL) & Shri Sanjeev Sood, General Manager (NJHPS) at a function at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi in the presence of Shri P.K. Sinha, Secretary, Ministry of Power and other dignitaries. 

This is the successive third year that the performance of the Nathpa Jhakri Power Station has been awarded. Earlier, for the year 2010-11 the power station had been awarded 'Gold Shield' by the Ministry of Power. 

The Ministry of Power had instituted this Comprehensive Award Scheme for recognizing meritorious performance in Power Sector in the year 2004-05. The Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station (6 x 250 MW) of SJVN Limited was evaluated for the 'Silver Shield' for the year 2012-13 and the 'Bronze Shield' for the year 2011-12 by the Central Electricity Authority in the category of "Performance of Hydro Power Stations". The Power Station, in operation since 2003-04, had established a record power generation of 7610 MU during the year 2011-12 with PAF of 104.26% and during the 2011-12 also generated 6777 MU with a PAF of 105.9% . During the current year 2013-14 the power station has already generated more than 6800 MU of electricity surpassing the Design energy and MOU target as on date. 

On this occasion Shri R.P. Singh told that on the path of expansion and diversification, SJVN has already entered the field of Wind Energy with the development of 47.6 MW Khirvire Wind Power Project in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. 25 Wind Power turbines of the capacity of 850 KW each of this Project have already commenced power generation. 

Shri Singh also expressed exuberance and confidence stating that SJVN has signed MoU with five other CPSEs to form Joint Venture for developing world's largest, 4000 MW, Sambhar Ultra Mega Solar Power Project in Rajasthan. 

He further told that SJVN's 412 MW Rampur HE Project in Himachal Pradesh is also likely to commence generation during the current financial year. 

The power station is since supplying valuable power to the nine northern grid states namely Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh & Delhi.
