SJVN Wins 679 MW Hydro Electric Project under International Competitive Bidding in Nepal

Mini Ratna company SJVN has won the 679 MW Lower Arun Hydro Electric Power Project in Nepal through International Competitive Bidding, after competing with various international companies including from China.

Mini Ratna company SJVN has won the 679 MW Lower Arun Hydro Electric Power Project in Nepal through International Competitive Bidding, after competing with various international companies including from China.

This information was provided by Nand Lal Sharma, CMD of SJVN, a joint venture of Goverment of India and Goverment of Himachal Pradesh, informed the Power Ministry that Government of Nepal has allotted 679 MW Lower Arun Hydro Electric Project in Nepal to SJVN through competitive bidding.

The Investment Board of Nepal in its meeting held on January 29, 2021, chaired by Prime Minister of Nepal, KP Sharma Oli has awarded this project to the company.

In line with this Nand Lal Sharma met with the Prime Minister of Nepal, KP Sharma Oli, in Kathmandu, and expressed his deepest gratitude to the Nepali Prime Minister for awarding this project to the company.

Sharma also assured the Prime Minister Oli that the project would be completed in a time bound manner.

Further, this Lower Arun Hydro Electric Project is located in Sankhuwasabha and Bhojpur Districts of Nepal. Post completion, the project is expected to generate 3,561 million units of electricity per annum.

Commenting on the development, Nand Lal Sharma, Chairman & Managing Director of SJVN, further mentioned that the projects being developed by SJVN in Nepal would result in overall development and boost mutual economic growth in India and Nepal. He said that the Infrastructural Development related to project activities would ensure overall socio-economic development of the region. SJVN is already constructing 900 MW Arun 3 HEP in Nepal and 217km 400 kV associated transmission system. With addition of Lower Arun Hydro Electric Project to its kitty, SJVN portfolio now stands at 8960.5 MW.

Meanwhile, the company’s current installed capacity stood at 2,016.51 MW and it has aimed to become 5,000 MW company by 2023, 12,000 MW company by 2030 and 25,000 MW company by 2040. It has presence in various sectors of power transmission and generation including hydro, wind, solar and thermal.

Buoyed by the project win, scrips of the company were trading at Rs 25.20 apiece, up 1 per cent, from the previous close on the exchange at 10:58 hours.
