SJVN to Develop 5,097 MW Hydro Power Projects with Rs 60,000 Cr Investment in Arunachal Pradesh

Hydroelectric power generation company SJVN is planning to invest about Rs 60,000 crore in Arunachal Pradesh for developing 5,097 MW of hydropower projects.

Hydroelectric power generation company SJVN is planning to invest about Rs 60,000 crore in Arunachal Pradesh for developing 5,097 MW of hydropower projects.

In line with this, Nand Lal Sharma, Chairman and Managing Director of SJVN held a meeting with the Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Chowna Mein in New Delhi to discuss the road map for the development of hydroelectric projects.

On the outcomes of the meetings, NL Sharma said that pursuant to the efforts of R.K. Singh Union Minister of Power, the State Government of Arunachal Pradesh has accepted the allotment of five hydroelectric projects with a total of 5,097 MW of capacity to SJVN.

In this regard, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) would shortly be signed, he added.

Under the 5,097 MW of capacity, the projects include are - Etalin HEP (3,097 MW), Attunli HEP (680 MW), Emini HEP (500 MW), Amulin HEP (420 MW) and Mihumdon HEP (400 MW). These projects are located in the Dibang Basin of Arunachal Pradesh.

Sharma stated that he has always been advocating the concept of the Integrated River Basin Development Approach, wherein the allocation of Hydro Projects in One Single River Basin to One Developer would enable optimum utilization of Manpower, Infrastructure and Financial Resources.

He expressed satisfaction that this novel concept has been accepted by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh in the allocation of these projects.

N.L. Sharma, CMD SJVN assured that SJVN has a proven track record of designing, constructing and operating mega hydro projects in challenging geographic and climatic conditions.

He stated that the development of these projects would involve a tentative investment of Rs 60,000 crore, and would be commissioned by SJVN in the next 8-10 years.

Sharma also mentioned that on commissioning, these projects are expected to generate about 20,000 Million Units of clean energy annually on a cumulative basis.

Meanwhile, the detailed projects reports of some of these projects have already been prepared while some projects are under survey and investigation stage, he added.
 
Sharma stated that with the allotment of these projects, SJVN would have a significant footprint in the North Eastern Region of the country enabling the company to be part of the development process of the Region.
 
He expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Power and the Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh for giving the opportunity to SJVN for the development of hydro projects and to become a partner in the overall prosperity of the State.

Dy. Chief Minister assured full support from Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh for the execution of these projects, he added.
