SJVN Limited, an energy corporation, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT Patna), aiming to revolutionize tunnelling projects' efficiency.

The core objective of this collaboration is to harness advanced geological models, a move expected to substantially reduce time and cost overruns typically associated with such projects. Through the integration of cutting-edge methodologies and diverse geotechnical data sources, including geological surveys, borehole data, and geophysical measurements, SJVN and IIT Patna aspire to pave the way for predictive analytics algorithms tailored explicitly for tunnelling projects.

"SJVN is dedicated to adopting innovative approaches to enhance project execution efficiency. This collaboration with IIT Patna underscores our commitment to leveraging technology for sustainable development," stated Geeta Kapur, Chairperson and Managing Director of SJVN.

The development of predictive analytics algorithms holds promise in forecasting potential risks and providing early warning systems, thereby mitigating project delays and cost escalations. Moreover, the partnership endeavors to evaluate the intricate relationship between overburden and deformation, crucial for the design and evaluation of support systems in tunnelling projects.

The MoU, signed in New Delhi, witnessed the presence of key dignitaries from both SJVN and IIT Patna. Among them were Director (Finance) of SJVN, A.K Singh, Director of IIT Patna, T.N Singh, along with other prominent figures from both organizations.
