Siemens Energy India has approved an investment of around INR 2,060 crore for setting up a new power transformer factory in India. This will expand the company’s large power transformer manufacturing capacity by approximately 30,000 MVA.

The investment, approved by the company’s Board of Directors, will be funded through internal accruals and is aligned with the Make in India initiative and the rapid expansion of India’s power sector. The new capacity is expected to commence operations between 2030 and 2032, the company stated in a regulatory filing.

The company stated that rising domestic and global demand for large power transformers, driven by energy transition and electrification trends, is the key rationale behind the expansion.

This follows the company’s earlier expansion at its Kalwa plant in Maharashtra. In November 2023, Siemens Energy India had announced an investment of INR 360 crore to double transformer manufacturing capacity from 15,000 MVA to 30,000 MVA, with commissioning scheduled by December 2025. Further, in November 2024, the company approved an additional INR 100 crore investment at Kalwa to expand its product range to include large reactors.

With the latest approval, the company’s total future transformer manufacturing capacity is expected to reach around 60,000 MVA.
