Shree Cement Ltd. has announced the commissioning of a 6 MWp solar power plant at its Roorkee unit in Uttarakhand, taking the total solar capacity at the Roorkee facility to 7 MWp. The company’s total solar footprint now stands at about 293.5 MWp.

Developed with a capital investment of approximately INR 16 crore, the solar power plant is expected to significantly reduce reliance on grid power and offset around 6,500 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, contributing meaningfully to climate action.

Commenting on the development, Neeraj Akhoury, Managing Director, Shree Cement said, “Sustainability is embedded in everything we do. The commissioning of the Roorkee solar plant is a testament to our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and building long-term energy resilience. Projects like this not only benefit the environment but also create local jobs and contribute to inclusive economic growth.”

Strategically located next to its existing cement operations, the plant marks a significant step forward in the company’s journey towards its RE100 targets and decarbonisation goals, the company said.
