The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and MahaGenco Renewable Energy (MahaGenco REL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (MAHAGENCO), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly explore and develop renewable energy projects and emerging clean energy technologies in Maharashtra and across India.

The collaboration will focus on the development of Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE), Round-the-Clock (RTC) renewable power projects, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Pumped Storage Projects (PSP), green hydrogen, green ammonia, power trading and project monitoring consultancy services.

According to the agreement, the two entities will work together to identify and develop projects with a potential cumulative capacity of up to 5 GW. The partnership aims to leverage SECI's expertise in renewable energy development and power trading, along with MahaGenco REL's project development capabilities, to accelerate clean energy deployment.

The MoU was signed by Sivakumar V. Vepakomma, Director (Power Systems), SECI and Abhay Harne, Director (Projects), MAHAGENCO, in the presence of Akash Tripathi, Managing Director, SECI, along with senior officials from SECI and MahaGenco REL.

In April 2026, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) designated SECI as the sole Renewable Energy Implementing Agency (REIA) for the issuance of renewable energy procurement bids as an intermediary procurer.
