Nuclear energy solutions provider Rosatom’s Petrozavodskmash, AEM-Technologies, JSC Branch has started the manufacturing of guide vanes for the housings of reactor coolant pump sets (RCPS) for the unit 5 of the Kudankulam NPP, a nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu, India.

Kudankulam nuclear power plant has been equipped with VVER-1000 reactors.

In June 2017, the Engineering Division of Rosatom State Corporation and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) signed the agreement for the third stage construction (Units 5 and 6) of Kudankulam NPP.

The company, which is specialist in the field of nuclear energy, said that the first guide vane has already passed the fitting-up and welding operations, while the fit-up quality of other three guide vanes was inspected, and the workers of its Petrozavodskmash manufacturing facility have set the welding operations.

The guide vane refers to the RCPS internals and consists of upper and lower disks, between which 13 guide blades are to be welded. The guide vane is to be mounted in the pump housing rigidly and is intended for setting centrifugal direction of coolant flow inside the pump. The RCPS housing is the first safety class item. The reactor plant equipment of one power unit includes four RCP sets.

AEM-Technologies is a joint stock company established in 2007 within JSC Atomenergomash – the machine-building subdivision of Rosatom State Corporation –is nowadays one of the leading Russian companies in the field of power machine-building.

The company consists of an engineering center staffed with experienced designers and process engineers as well as two manufacturing sites: Petrozavodskmash, AEM-Technologies, JSC Branch in Petrozavodsk and Atommash, AEM-Technologies, JSC Branch in Volgodonsk.

Rosatom possesses a wide range of assets, including assets in design, construction and operation of nuclear power stations, uranium mining, conversion and enrichment, supply of nuclear fuel, decommissioning, spent fuel storage and transportation and safe nuclear waste disposal.

The company is also engaged in the production of equipment and isotope products for the needs of nuclear medicine, scientific research, and materials science, the production of digital and of various nuclear and non-nuclear innovative products. Its strategy is to develop low-carbon power generation projects, including in the wind generation field.
