In a bid to accelerate the adoption of solar energy in the residential segment, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has revised its solar panel installation guidelines.
During its 183rd board meeting held on December 4, 2024, the LDA has made it mandatory to install solar rooftop systems on buildings with an area exceeding 100 square meters, under the PM Surya Ghar scheme.
“Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, the central and state governments are providing subsidies ranging from INR 45,000 to INR 1,08,000 for installing solar rooftop systems on private residences. Considering this, it will be mandatory to install solar rooftop systems on buildings with an area exceeding 100 square meters. To enforce this, the installation of solar rooftop systems will be mandated in the building plans approved for such plots,” shared the authority on X.
It further clarified that this rule will not apply to pre-constructed buildings but will be implemented for newly approved building plans.
Earlier, this mandate was applicable only to plots of 2,000 square feet or larger.
In the same meeting, the LDA also passed a proposal to set up 20 charging stations in the city to promote electric vehicles.
