Rooftop Solar Installations under PM Surya Ghar Yojana Crosses 15 Lakh
As per Ministry of New and Renewable Energy data, a total of 15.45 lakh households have benefitted through the installation of rooftop solar plants under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Gujarat leads the adoption with 5,23,615 installations, followed by Maharashtra (3,71,954) and Uttar Pradesh (1,64,646).

A total of 15.45 lakh households, as on July 14, 2025, have benefitted through the installation of rooftop solar plants under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, stated the Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, and Power Shripad Yesso Naik in the Lok Sabha.
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 13, 2024, with a total outlay of INR 75,021 crore, the initiative aims to equip one crore households with rooftop solar systems by the end of FY'27. It has been 17 months since the scheme was implemented.
As per the state-wise data shared, Gujarat leads the adoption with 5,23,615 households having benefitted, representing 33.88 percent of the total. In the last 4 months, installations have gone up by about 1,28,125 – a 32.40 percent increase.
Maharashtra follows with 3,71,954 installations (24.07 percent). In the last 4 months, the state has shown even faster adoption with 1,35,615 installations – a 57.38 percent increase.
Uttar Pradesh and Kerala have recorded installations around 1,64,646 and 1,19,453, respectively. The states' numbers have gone up by 70,549 and 41,481which is about 74.97 percent and 53.20 percent growth, respectively.

States like Rajasthan (59,260), Madhya Pradesh (49,811), Tamil Nadu (38,323), Andhra Pradesh (37,257) and Uttarakhand (37,163) form the middle tier. Haryana, Assam and Telangana contribute to the lower tier, with installations between 22,000-28,000 range. The remaining states together account for 69,122 installations which is roughly about 4.47 percent of total installation.
Interestingly, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, and Uttarakhand have shown high growth in the last 4 months – 156.92 percent, 143.05 percent and 96.82 percent, respectively.
As per MNRE projections, around 20 lakh installations are projected by October, doubling to 40 lakh by March 2026, and ultimately achieving the target of one crore by March 2027.
