Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) has initiated pilot projects for solar and battery energy storage systems in Jamnagar, preceding the planned production of 9.6 GW of solar modules later this year.

As per reports, the company, led by Mukesh Ambani, is building a giganitc giga complex spanning over 5,000 acres, with an investment exceeding USD 10 billion. Commenting on this project in its first quarter results released recently, Mukesh D. Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director, Reliance Industries Ltd., said, "Reliance has made significant progress on the implementation of New Energy Giga-factories. On completion, these projects will provide India with a world-class, integrated green energy ecosystem that can propel the next leg of sustainable growth."

Further, the company's green energy business, encompassing renewable energy and hydrogen, is anticipated to drive its next phase of growth. This business will consist of integrated solar modules, battery storage systems, and renewable energy sources feeding into modular electrolysers to produce green hydrogen, which will then be converted into electricity via fuel cells.

RIL has strategically prepared for this by acquiring 10 companies for approximately USD 1.5 billion and securing agreements with the Gujarat government and Deendayal Port Authority for land and plot acquisitions for green hydrogen and ammonia production.

Additionally, RIL has been active in the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes, securing significant allocations for Advanced Chemistry Cells and solar modules. As per reports, RIL's new energy business is valued at USD 20 billion based on FY26 sales, comprising 12 percent of the company's total valuation. These developments mark a significant step for RIL in establishing itself as a major player in the renewable energy and hydrogen sectors.
