RES - an active global renewable energy company for over 30 years has announced to give contracts to Peab and SIC for the 372MW Björnberget Wind Farm in Sweden, and the construction of the project is expected to be started in 2021.

The wind farm will be fitted with the latest Gamesa 5.X platform from Siemens. Sixty, 6.2MW turbines will be available and they will have the largest rotor in the onshore industry, having the lowest energy cost.

Commenting on the appointment, Matilda Afzelius, CEO of RES in the Nordics said, “This is an exciting point in the construction phase and we’re pleased to be working with such experienced and local companies as Peab and SIC on this project. A wind farm of this size will bring prosperity to the local region, whilst helping to decarbonize Sweden’s power generation.”

The large size of the project, considered as one of the largest wind farms in Europe required RES to appoint two contractors to deliver the balance of plant (BoP) work. The wind farm will generate 1.1TWh annually, equivalent to powering 300,000 European homes.

Nordic construction and civil engineering company, Peab will be responsible for the foundations for 35 turbines while SIC, with decades of turbine foundations experience, will complete 25 of them. Apart from managing construction, RES will take care of the wind farm’s commercial and technical management once the project will attain its operational capacity.

“Both RES and SIC were early movers in the wind market in the Nordics and it’s great that our relationship has developed since our first construction project together back in 2005. We are looking forward to delivering the same high-quality construction at Bjornberget,” said Jens Bak Ibsen, SIC CEO.

Bjornberget Wind Farm is jointly owned by Enlight Renewable Energy and Prime Capital’s Prime Green Energy Infrastructure Fund (PGEIF), and is expected to be operational in early 2023.
