ReNew Photovoltaics, a subsidiary of ReNew Energy Global PLC, is set to establish a greenfield 6 GW solar ingot–wafer manufacturing facility at Rambilli in Anakapalli district, Andhra Pradesh, with an investment commitment of INR 3,990 crore.
The project will mark India’s first commercial-scale integrated ingot–wafer unit, producing the foundational components used in solar cells and modules. The proposal received approval from the Andhra Pradesh State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB), chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and is expected to be cleared by the Cabinet next week. The MoU for the project was signed during last month’s Partnership Summit in Visakhapatnam.
Designed to cut India’s reliance on imported solar components, particularly from China, the facility aligns with the country’s goal of achieving 300 GW of solar capacity by 2030. It is supported under the Government of India’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for solar manufacturing.
Spread across 130–140 acres earmarked for immediate handover, the plant is targeted for completion by March 2026, with commercial operations scheduled to begin by January 2028. The project is expected to generate around 1,200 high-skilled and semi-skilled jobs and will require 95 MW of uninterrupted power supply along with 10 MLD of water.
With this development, the Anakapalli–Visakhapatnam belt is fast emerging as a strategic hub for solar and clean-energy technologies. Andhra Pradesh continues to strengthen its position as a preferred destination for large-scale renewable energy investments, the government said in a statement.
