ReNew Wind Energy Pvt. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of ReNew Pvt. Ltd., has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra to develop a proposed INR 70,000 crore green integrated data centre park in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
The proposed facility will have a planned capacity of 750 MW and is expected to be developed across Panvel, Khalapur, Taloja and Bhokharpada in the Navi Mumbai and MMR region. Development is scheduled to begin in phases from 2028.
The project is expected to generate around 7,000 employment opportunities, including more than 2,000 direct jobs, according to the company.
The MoU was signed by P Anbalagan, principal secretary of the Industries, Investment and Services Department and chief executive officer of Invest Maharashtra, on behalf of the state government, and ReNew’s Maharashtra state head.
Under the agreement, the Maharashtra government will facilitate the process of obtaining the necessary approvals, clearances, registrations and applicable fiscal incentives for the proposed development.
A key feature of the project is its planned integration of renewable energy into data centre operations. The facility is expected to use 51 percent green power. It will also have dedicated power infrastructure, including two incoming feeders from independent sources, to support reliable electricity supply.
The proposed investment aligns with Maharashtra’s ambition to become a USD 1 trillion economy by 2030. ReNew said the project is expected to support the development of data centres, semiconductors and clean energy, while attracting investments in associated infrastructure.
ReNew currently has an energy portfolio of approximately 2.5 GW in Maharashtra and has invested around INR 15,000 crore in the state to date.
The proposed data centre park adds to the company’s activities in Maharashtra, combining large-scale digital infrastructure development with renewable energy use. However, the project remains at the MoU stage, with development expected to commence in phases from 2028.
