Amidst steady growth projections for the semiconductor industry which navigates an unprecedented year, the Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) has expanded its board of directors with the appointment of Hidetoshi Shibata, President and CEO of Renesas Electronics Corporation.

Renesas is among the global leaders in the semiconductor industry focused on the IoT, industrial, infrastructure and automotive markets.

Commenting on the appointment, Jodi Shelton, CEO of GSA, said “as the voice of the global semiconductor industry, GSA offers leaders a neutral platform to collaborate and advance technology for a positive societal and economic impact. Our board’s vision, dedication and passion has led to the GSA being a strong, influential association representing companies across the world.”

“We are pleased to welcome Hidetoshi as our newest board member and look forward to his contributions as we further progress our industry,” Shelton added.

Speaking on his appointment, Hidetoshi Shibata, President and CEO at Renesas, said that “semiconductors are essential technology enablers that power most of the intelligent devices we use today.”

“I am proud to join the GSA Board of Directors and add our expertise to the development of innovative solutions in the global collaboration effort, with industry leaders of GSA, which is critical for success in today’s fast-paced and competitive markets,” Shibata added.

The GSA welcomes Renesas onto its board of directors with the collective goal of increasing the profitability and sustainability of the global semiconductor ecosystem and improving the worldwide economy.

During his tenure at Renesas, Shibata led the transformation of the company’s businesses. He also took the lead in the acquisition of two US based semiconductor companies, Intersil and Integrated Device Technology, which expanded the company’s global leadership in embedded solutions. As demonstrated at Renesas, his expertise and experience as a successful private equity investor at multiple global institutions will be invaluable to the GSA board.

Meanwhile, GSA board of directors, chaired by Dr. Lisa Su, President and CEO of Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD), includes executives from nearly 30 of the top semiconductor and technology companies across the world.
