Reliance Industries plans to invest INR 1 lakh crore in Andhra Pradesh to set up compressed biogas (CBG) plants, creating more than 3 lakh jobs and generating nearly INR 60,000 crore in revenue for the state over the coming decades,
This was revealed by executive director Anant Ambani. at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Rayalaseema Horticulture Hub and Indian School of Agriculture in Madanapalle.
He said that the proposed investment would support Andhra Pradesh’s transition towards cleaner energy while creating new opportunities for farmers. The CBG plants will use agricultural residue, animal dung, food waste and other organic materials to produce renewable fuel.
“Our kisans, who ensure India’s food security, will now strengthen India’s energy security too,” Ambani said, adding that the investment would contribute to India’s efforts towards greater energy self-reliance.
According to Ambani, the CBG plants are expected to create over 3 lakh jobs and generate nearly INR 60,000 crore in revenue for Andhra Pradesh over the next several decades. Reliance is also investing in clean-energy projects in the Rayalaseema region and exploring opportunities in advanced manufacturing, he said.
Ambani cited state government data showing that Andhra Pradesh had approved 388 mega projects since June 2024, involving investment commitments of more than INR 14 lakh crore and the potential to create nearly 11 lakh jobs. Around one-third of these investments are expected to come to the Rayalaseema region, he said.
The Reliance executive also outlined the group’s support for the Indian School of Agriculture through investment, digital capabilities, technical expertise and industry partnerships.
The proposed Rayalaseema Horticulture Hub, backed by INR 40,000 crore, will focus on technology-driven agriculture in the region. Ambani said that the initiative would seek to combine modern technology with traditional farming knowledge.
The Indian School of Agriculture will use artificial intelligence and other technologies for applications including pest prediction, drone-based crop monitoring, precision irrigation, robotics and price intelligence.
Reliance’s Jio will collaborate with the school to take its training programmes to farmers in Indian languages through virtual classrooms in villages, Ambani said. The initiative will also seek to train rural youth as digitally enabled agricultural extension workers.
Jio has developed Jio Krishi, a platform offering products for farmers, while Reliance has established a research and development centre for bio-energy development in Jamnagar, he said.
Ambani also said that Reliance would explore cooperation between the Indian School of Agriculture and Vantara’s proposed university for wildlife and veterinary sciences.
He said that the initiatives could help make agriculture a more attractive career for young Indians by providing farmers and rural youth with access to technology, skills and entrepreneurship opportunities within their villages.
