Reliance, Jindal, SAEL, Sembcorp, JBM, Hindustan Power Win SJVN’s 1200 MW Solar Plus ESS Auction

SAEL Industries, Jindal India Renewable Energy, Sembcorp Green, JBM Renewables, Fastnote Biofuels (Hindustan Power), and Reliance NU Energies have emerged as winners in SJVN’s auction for 1,200 MW of ISTS-connected solar projects with 600 MW/2,400 MWh energy storage systems (ESS).

SJVN’s auction to develop 1,200 MW of ISTS-connected solar projects with 600 MW/2,400 MWh energy storage systems has discovered an L1 tariff (lowest bid) of INR 3.32/kWh.

SAEL Industries, Jindal India Renewable Energy, Sembcorp Green and JBM Renewables quoted a tariff of INR 3.32/kWh and won 150 MW, 300 MW, 150 MW and 150 MW, respectively.

Fastnote Biofuels (Hindustan Power) has won 100 MW at a tariff of INR 3.33/kWh.

Reliance NU Energies have won a capacity of 350 MW out of the quoted capacity of 600 MW at a tariff of INR 3.33/kWh, under the bucket-filling method.

The tender for this was issued in September 2024.

The tender allowed bids ranging from a minimum of 50 MW to a maximum of 600 MW, with a total of 1,200 MW available for allocation.

“This victory brings with it a commitment to install a minimum of 150 MW / 600 MWh of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)—a testament to our unwavering focus on reliability, innovation, and sustainability,” stated Jindal India Renewable Energy.

Reliance Power of which Reliance NU Energies is a subsidiary said in a statement, “Reliance NU Energies wins the largest allocation in SJVN’s tariff-based competitive bidding process, securing an allocation of 350 MW of solar generation capacity coupled with 175 MW/700 MWh of battery energy storage system (BESS).”

It further added that once commissioned, the platform will add 600 MWp of installed solar PV capacity, and 700 MWh of energy storage to Reliance Power’s portfolio, consolidating its leadership in new energy solutions. “The company’s total clean energy pipeline now stands at 2.5 GWp solar and >2.5 GWhr BESS, making it India’s largest player in the integrated Solar + BESS segment,” it said.

It further added that the awarded project requires a minimum four-hour daily discharge window, effectively enabling assured peak power delivery to state distribution utilities (Discoms), and will be developed under a build-own-operate (BOO) framework following the standard bidding guidelines prescribed by the Ministry of Power.
