State-owned REC has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Test House (NTH), under the Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, to strengthen quality testing and assurance for materials used in the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).

The MoU was signed at Krishi Bhavan, New Delhi, by Prabhat Kumar Singh, Executive Director (RDSS), REC, and Dr. Alok Kumar Srivastava, Director General, NTH, in the presence of senior government officials, including Nidhi Khare, Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs.

The collaboration aims to institutionalise third-party quality testing of RDSS project materials through NTH’s NABL-accredited laboratories, while also facilitating joint technical workshops and training programmes. Additionally, the partnership will focus on developing standardised quality frameworks to enhance the reliability and safety of power distribution infrastructure nationwide.

The initiative is driven by REC’s Project Management Division (PMD) – Quality Assurance Division, as part of efforts to address gaps in material procurement and installation under RDSS.

Last month, Power Finance Corporation (PFC) acquired 52.63 percent of the Government's stake in REC, making it a subsidiary, and has granted in-principle approval for a merger in line with the Union Budget 2026-27 restructuring plan.
