Power sector major lender REC Ltd, formerly Rural Electrification Corporation, will be investing Rs 2.34 crore in various projects including infrastructure, solar lights etc in Arrah city of Bhojpur District in the state of Bihar.
As per REC, the main objective of the project is to improve and provide basic infrastructure & developmental facilities in the villages of Arrah block in Bhojpur district.
Further, these projects were inaugurated by the Power & New and Renewable Energy Minister RK Singh through video conferencing under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative undertaken by the Navratna non-banking financial company (NBFC) REC Ltd.
Under the program, there were a total of 28 schemes, including 13 schemes for PCC Construction of roads, 11 schemes for installation of LED/ Solar and high mast lights, 4 other schemes for general public viz. construction of boundary wall in Gaushala, construction of shed in Mahavir temple, renovation of Arrah’s fish market and construction of new class rooms and boundary wall in Mohanpur Primary School.
During the inauguration, SK Gupta, CMD, Ajoy Choudhury, Director (Finance), R Lakshmanan, IAS, ED from REC Ltd along with other district officials, public from Arrah were present.
REC Ltd has completed more than 50 years in the area of its operations. It provides financial assistance across the power-sector value chain. Apart from this, the company is also the nodal agency for flagship schemes of the Government of India in the power sector like Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), Saubhagya, etc.
The move is significant as Arrah is one of the Parliamentary constituencies in the state of Bihar and RK Singh is a Member of the Indian Parliament for Arrah since May 2014. Also, in October-November this year, the Bihar Assembly elections are expected to be scheduled as the tenure of the current Assembly will end by last November 2020. However, the Election Commission of India has not yet taken a final call on poll dates in Bihar.
