The Rajasthan government has rolled out a fresh initiative to make electricity more affordable and reliable under the '150 units Nishulk Bijli Yojana' and the 'PM Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana.'To benefit households unable to install rooftop systems, the state is now working on a plan to set up community solar plants on the rooftops of 33/11 kV sub-station buildings.
To manage surplus generation and ensure stable supply, the government is also exploring the integration of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). A manual load survey was ordered across all 33/11 kV sub-stations linked to PM-KUSUM plants between June 1 and June 15, 2025. Officials were tasked with collecting hourly demand data, solar injection patterns, and identifying issues such as surplus injection, back-feed, or reverse power flow, challenges that affect grid stability.
The data will be used to prepare comparative charts mapping solar generation against demand, helping to determine the appropriate size and placement of BESS units. The analysis and final report, based on 15 days of survey data, have been directed to be completed within seven days of the September 4 order issued by Arti Dogra, Chairman of Discoms.
The move underscores Rajasthan’s proactive strategy to align solar expansion under flagship schemes like PM Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana and PM-KUSUM with storage infrastructure, ensuring that consumers get clean, uninterrupted, and cost-effective electricity.
