Rajasthan Poised to Lead India’s RE Growth: MoS Energy Heeralal Nagar at REconnect Jaipur
Rajasthan is spearheading India’s renewable energy revolution, having already installed 34 GW of solar capacity and holding the country’s highest renewable energy potential, stated Heeralal Nagar, Minister of State for Energy, Government of Rajasthan, while addressing the REconnect Summit-25 in Jaipur.

Rajasthan currently leads India in installed solar capacity, with 34 GW already operational. The state holds the highest renewable energy potential in the country, with up to 142 GW in solar and 284 GW in wind energy, stated Heeralal Nagar, Minister of State for Energy, Government of Rajasthan.
He was addressing the gathering at the REconnect Summit-25, Jaipur, organised by Energetica India magazine, at the Clarks Amer Hotel in Jaipur, Rajasthan. “In the past one and half years alone, we have added 10,772 MW of renewable capacity. Our goal under the Unified Energy Policy is to achieve 125 GW by 2030. This aligns with the national target of 500 GW, with Rajasthan playing a major role,” said Nagar.
Rajasthan is at the centre of India’s renewable energy revolution. “Today, investors from across the country are looking to Rajasthan for opportunities in solar and other clean energy sectors. In the past one and half years, our government has taken every possible step to promote solar energy — including launching a dedicated energy policy. We merged different policies into a single, simplified framework to ease the process for industries,” said the Minister.
He further added, “In our border areas with abundant land, we have simplified the land allocation policy so that investors can come, invest, and create employment opportunities for the youth of Rajasthan. This will help us meet our own energy needs and contribute power to other states in the future.”
The Minister also unveiled plans to position Rajasthan as a national hub for battery energy storage, targeting 5,000 MW of storage capacity in collaboration with the central government. “Our Chief Minister is currently in Delhi discussing support for this initiative,” he said.
He urged investors to integrate at least 25–30 percent battery storage alongside solar installations to ensure grid stability. “Storage is no longer optional. Recently, we had to issue directives to some producers to scale down solar energy production to manage grid stability. That’s not sustainable for the future we envision,” he added.
The Minister also highlighted improved daytime electricity supply to farmers during the Rabi season through solar power. “Farmers' demand for daytime power has been largely fulfilled by solar,” he said.
Nagar announced that the state’s ambitious '150 Units Free' electricity scheme powered by rooftop solar systems which was announced by the Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma is going to be launched very soon. “The scheme is about to be launched and preparations are in the final stages,” he said.
“We are targeting the installation of 1.1 kW rooftop solar systems with INR 33,000 central subsidy and an additional INR 17,000 state subsidy – aggregating to INR 50,000 in subsidy covering the major part of the cost of the system. This will reduce household energy bills, save up to INR 3 lakh in lifetime costs, and bring down the government's subsidy burden,” Nagar stated.
This rooftop solar scheme is expected to add 4,000–5,000 MW to the state’s capacity. “The burden of previous subsidies, which cost the government INR 10,000–15,000 crore annually, will be reduced,” said the Minister.
The summit featured engaging discussions on solar PV manufacturing, energy storage adoption, solarising agriculture, regulatory improvements, and commercial, industrial, and residential rooftop growth.
The summit has garnered support from prominent industry players, including Luminous Power Technologies, Gautam Solar, Oswal Solar, Anand E-Beam Cables, Aatmanirbhar Solar, POM Power, Standard Skkytop Rise, SolarYaan, and Cosmic PV. Rajasthan Solar Association (RSA) is the industry association partner for the event.
The Jaipur edition of the REconnect Summit served as a key platform for networking and knowledge sharing, drawing enthusiastic participation from various stakeholders including government officials and industry leaders.
The Minister highlighted the role of the REconnect Summit in boosting Rajasthan’s solar ambitions further. “Rajasthan government is open to your valuable suggestions. We will consider your ideas and work to implement the positive ones,” he concluded.
