Primelectric Holdings, Inc. and global energy giant ACWA Power are teaming up to explore renewable energy and storage solutions in the Visayas and Palawan, marking a major step forward in the Philippines’ green energy shift.

The two companies recently signed a Joint Study Agreement in Manila, with Primelectric President Roel Z. Castro and ACWA Power’s Chief Investment and Development Officer Thomas Brostrom leading the charge. The partnership will focus on identifying viable renewable energy and energy storage projects specifically in Negros, Panay, and Palawan.

“This partnership comes at a critical time as our regions require more resilient, reliable, and affordable power sources,” said Castro, adding that the goal is to stabilise supply while harnessing the region’s rich renewable potential.

ACWA Power, known for its global portfolio of power generation and desalination projects across 14 countries, brings serious firepower to the table. Meanwhile, Primelectric, the parent firm of MORE Power in Iloilo, Negros Power in Central Negros, and Bohol Light, will contribute local knowledge and technical data.

Under the agreement, Primelectric will handle site data and on-ground insights, while ACWA Power will lead project development, financing, and operations, a synergy that could fast-track deployment of solar, wind, or hybrid systems along with energy storage tech.

Brostrom noted, “This partnership blends our global expertise with Primelectric’s local strengths, paving the way for technology transfer, investment, and sustainable development across these islands.”

Once viable opportunities are confirmed, the duo plans to move swiftly into development and investment phases, potentially bringing large-scale clean energy projects to life in the country’s power-hungry island grids.
