Premier Energies Targets June 2027 for First BESS Phase

Premier Energies Ltd. plans to commission the first 6 GWh phase of its proposed 12 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing facility in Telangana by June 2027, as the solar manufacturer expands into the energy storage segment.

The company disclosed the commissioning timeline at its Annual General Meeting. The facility is being developed through Premier Energies’ subsidiary, Premier Battery Technologies Pvt. Ltd., in partnership with RCT India, part of Germany-based RCT Group.

Premier Energies and RCT India had entered into a binding term sheet to form a joint venture for establishing the 12 GWh BESS manufacturing facility. The project is planned in two phases, with the first phase having a capacity of 6 GWh.

The proposed facility will cater to demand from commercial, industrial and utility-scale applications in India and overseas markets. The partners also plan to develop the facility as an export-oriented manufacturing platform, supplying BESS solutions to international markets from India.

The partnership combines Premier Energies’ manufacturing capabilities with RCT’s global energy-sector experience, engineering expertise and international supply-chain network.

The project comes as India expands renewable energy capacity and requires large-scale energy storage to manage the intermittent nature of renewable generation, improve grid flexibility and support reliable power delivery.

For Premier Energies, the BESS project marks an expansion beyond solar cell and module manufacturing into energy storage. The company has more than 30 years of experience in solar manufacturing and is expanding its integrated capabilities across the renewable energy value chain.

The company is also pursuing expansion in solar manufacturing, including integrated manufacturing capabilities across different stages of the solar value chain.

The proposed 12 GWh BESS facility is expected to strengthen domestic battery storage manufacturing and support energy storage requirements of renewable power developers, commercial and industrial consumers and utility-scale projects.
