Powertrac Places Order with SUNKA LEAD for 10 GWh BESS Manufacturing Line in Gujarat

Powertrac has placed an order with China-based SUNKA LEAD for a 10 GWh automated BESS manufacturing line in Gujarat. The proposed facility will feature AGV-based material movement, robotic assembly, automated testing and integrated BESS manufacturing capabilities.

Powertrac has announced its strategic entry into the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) sector with plans to establish a 10 GWh advanced manufacturing facility in Gujarat. As part of the expansion, the company has signed and released an order to China-based SUNKA LEAD, a provider of battery manufacturing equipment and intelligent automation solutions, for the proposed BESS production line.
 
According to the company, the facility will be developed around a highly automated, AI-enabled manufacturing architecture. The planned production line will incorporate automated BESS container fabrication, Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV)-based material movement, robotic assembly and handling, automated inspection and testing, advanced quality-control systems, and integrated assembly and commissioning capabilities.
 
The development marks Powertrac’s expansion from solar PV manufacturing, turnkey engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), and distributed renewable energy projects into the rapidly growing energy-storage segment.
 
With more than 18 years of experience in the renewable energy industry, Powertrac plans to leverage its existing EPC, project development and Independent Power Producer (IPP) capabilities to build an integrated renewable energy and storage platform.
 
The proposed facility is being positioned to address emerging demand from utility-scale storage projects, commercial and industrial customers, renewable energy developers and grid infrastructure operators. Powertrac also plans to explore opportunities in grid stabilisation, ancillary services, energy-storage operations and maintenance, and other energy-transition applications.
 
The adoption of intelligent automation is expected to support greater manufacturing consistency, operational efficiency, traceability and product quality. The integration of AGVs, robotic material handling, automated inspection and testing systems will also help the company establish scalable production capabilities for future demand.
 
Powertrac currently has approximately 480 MW of distributed renewable energy IPP projects under signed Power Purchase Agreements. These include projects under the PM-KUSUM Component-C programme and the Gujarat DISCOM Renewable Energy-Based Power Procurement Scheme.
 
The company has set a target of achieving 1 GW of operational IPP capacity by 2030.
 
India’s demand for energy-storage systems is expected to grow as the country expands renewable energy capacity and addresses the intermittency associated with solar and wind generation. BESS solutions are increasingly being deployed to support peak-load management, renewable energy integration, grid balancing, backup power and energy-cost optimisation for C&I consumers.
 
Through the proposed 10 GWh Gujarat facility, Powertrac aims to strengthen its presence across the renewable energy value chain and develop an integrated platform combining solar manufacturing, project execution, power generation and advanced energy-storage solutions, the company stated.
