POWERGRID Wins INR 1,152 Crore ISTS Project to Integrate 7.5 GW RE from Lakadia REZ in Gujarat

POWERGRID has won an ISTS project to integrate 7,500 MW of renewable energy from Gujarat’s Lakadia REZ Phase II, at an annual transmission charge of INR 1,152.49 crore. The project involves the establishment of a new 765/400 kV substation and 765kV transmission lines traversing through Gujarat.

Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID) has announced that it has been declared the successful bidder under tariff-based competitive bidding to establish an Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) for integrating 7,500 MW of renewable energy from the Lakadia Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) in Gujarat – Phase II.
 
The project will be developed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis at an annual transmission charge of INR 1,152.49 crore. POWERGRID received the Letter of Intent (LoI) for the project on September 3, 2026, the company stated in a regulatory filing.
 
It further added that the project involves the establishment of a new 765/400 kV Lakadia-II substation in Gujarat, along with the construction of associated 765 kV transmission lines traversing the state. The scope also includes associated equipment and bays required for the transmission system.
 
In addition, POWERGRID will install and commission a synchronous condenser at the Lakadia-II substation, supporting grid stability and reliable integration of large-scale renewable energy from the Lakadia REZ.
 
This week, POWERGRID also secured an ISTS project for evacuating 6 GW of renewable energy from Rajasthan’s Barmer Complex, with annual transmission charges of INR 3,244.33 crore.
