Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (POWERGRID) has invited bids to develop a 187.5 MW, 750 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Maheswaram 400/220 kV substation in Telangana.
The project will be taken up under domestic competitive bidding. The selected contractor will be responsible for the system’s design, supply, erection, testing and commissioning, as well as its operation and maintenance. POWERGRID has set a 15-month period for commissioning and takeover, followed by 15 years of comprehensive maintenance.
The tender is linked to a larger project being pursued by Telangana Power Generation Corporation Ltd (TGGENCO) under the tariff-based competitive bidding route. The IFB says POWERGRID intends to participate in the project’s selection process and that the package award will proceed if POWERGRID is declared the successful bidder and receives a Letter of Award.
Bids must be submitted electronically through POWERGRID’s portal by October 19, 2026. The first, techno-commercial envelope is scheduled to open that day. The tender follows a single-stage, two-envelope process.
Interested firms must request access to the bidding documents by October 17, submitting a request letter, a signed non-disclosure agreement and the power of attorney of the person signing the agreement. The tender fee is INR 25,000.
The tender is open to eligible firms registered and incorporated in India, subject to the stated qualification requirements and procurement rules. Bidders must also meet the applicable “Make in India” provisions and restrictions concerning bidders from countries sharing a land border with India.
