With India pushing toward 500 GW of non-fossil fuel power capacity by 2030 and the Renewable Energy (RE) sector expected to generate over 1.8 million new jobs, POWERCON Group’s Centre of Renewable Energy (CORE) Academy has rolled out seven specialised RE courses at Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), one of the world’s largest open universities.

The collaboration aims to train and upskill 20,000 learners by 2026, strengthening India’s green energy workforce and addressing the sector’s growing skill shortage.

The courses span critical domains including wind energy, solar PV systems, energy storage, pumped hydro storage, and electrical safety. Offered as Certificate, Diploma, and Advanced Diploma programmes, the curriculum has been designed to combine academic rigour with industry-oriented practical exposure, enabling students to graduate as job-ready “RE Commandos” equipped for India’s clean energy transition.

Aligned with the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), the programmes have been developed in-house by POWERCON’s industry specialists. The flexible formats—ranging from three months to one year—are open to students, working professionals, and individuals seeking certification in RE technologies.

Commenting on the launch, Praveen Kakulte, CEO of The POWERCON Group, said, “We experienced a critical gap between what the RE industry needed and what training institutions delivered. So, CORE Academy was born to create programs designed by practicing engineers, not just educators. Today, we are proud to see our approach shaping professionals who are technically skilled, adaptable, and ready to thrive in a fast-evolving global RE industry.”

To date, CORE Academy has trained over 6,000 students and supported placements across 25 leading RE companies. The association with YCMOU significantly expands the Academy’s reach, making renewable energy education accessible to a much wider learner base and strengthening the pipeline of skilled talent for India’s green economy.
