Power Minister Manohar Lal Reviews NHPC Hydroelectric Projects in Jammu and Kashmir
Power Minister Manohar Lal reviewed NHPC’s Salal, Sawalkot and Ratle hydroelectric projects in Jammu and Kashmir to assess progress, expedite works and strengthen India’s renewable energy infrastructure.

Union Minister for Power and Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal, during his two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, reviewed the progress of key NHPC hydroelectric projects in the Union Territory.
Accompanied by Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal, the Minister visited NHPC’s Salal Power Project in Reasi district, where he reviewed ongoing works and directed the company to expedite sediment removal operations in the reservoir. The sediment removal is being undertaken to clear accumulated silt and enhance optimal utilisation of water resources.
NHPC Chairman and Managing Director Bhupendra Gupta briefed the Minister on the status of various hydroelectric projects in Jammu and Kashmir. The visit covers project sites in Reasi, Ramban and Kishtwar districts.
During the visit to Salal Power Station, the Minister also participated in a plantation drive within the project premises, highlighting the government’s focus on environmental conservation and sustainable development. He held discussions with the local administration and officials from concerned departments to ensure coordinated and timely execution of project works.
En route to Kishtwar, Manohar Lal carried out an aerial inspection of the 1,856 MW Sawalkot Hydroelectric Project. Upon reaching Kishtwar, he visited the Ratle Hydroelectric Project, where he laid the foundation stone for dam concreting works and urged the project team to complete the construction within stipulated timelines.
