The Indian Power Stations Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Conference 2024 commenced its proceedings today in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, under the auspices of NTPC Limited.
The event, graced by the virtual presence of Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy, R.K. Singh, marks a significant milestone in the power sector's journey towards enhanced safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness in electricity generation.
Themed 'Operations & Maintenance Practices for Safe, Reliable & Cost-Effective Power Generation', the conference celebrates the legacy of NTPC's pioneering unit commissioning at Singrauli in 1982, a momentous event that has since propelled the sector towards innovation and excellence.
In his address, Minister Singh articulated ambitious plans for NTPC to double its electricity generation capacity from 73+ GW to 150 GW, underscoring the company's reputation for efficiency and reliability. He envisioned NTPC evolving into a global entity, operating power plants worldwide while emphasizing the imperative of timely project completions to meet burgeoning electricity demand.
Highlighting the synergy between thermal and renewable energy sources, Minister Singh reassured stakeholders of a harmonious energy transition. He stressed the need for increased nuclear capacity, urging NTPC and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL) to expedite collaboration towards this end.
The inaugural session witnessed the launch of several initiatives, including the IPS 2024 E-Compendium, Steam Turbine E-Learning Module, and Boilerpedia. Additionally, 'Vikalp', an innovative ash-brick crafted from industrial byproducts, was unveiled, symbolizing NTPC's commitment to sustainability.
Union Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal underscored the importance of sustainable O&M practices, while Shri Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson of the Central Electricity Authority, advocated for the integration of AI-driven solutions to enhance safety and cost-effectiveness in power plants.
CMD of NTPC, Gurdeep Singh, lauded the company's operational excellence, exemplified by the sustained high performance of the Singrauli unit. The event also witnessed the felicitation of exemplary performers through the Swarn Shakti Awards and Business Excellence Awards.
NTPC Talcher Kaniha clinched the coveted title of Overall Champion in the Swarn Shakti Awards, with NTPC Vindhyachal securing the Runner-Up position. In the Business Excellence Awards category, NTPC Vindhyachal was lauded for Champion and Overall Excellence.
