Hyderabad-based power and infrastructure EPC company Power Mech Projects has announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary PM Green has secured a contract worth INR 1,563 crore from West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company (WBSEDCL) to set up 250 MW/1,000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Goaltore SS in Paschim Midnapore, West Bengal.
The project has been structured as a Build, Own, Operate (BOO) model, with a 100 percent off-take guarantee from WBSEDCL. The scope of work includes design, finance, engineering, procurement, construction, operation, and maintenance of the BESS facility at the Goaltore Substation, the company stated.
There is an additional greenshoe option with additional capacity of 250 MW/1,000 MWh to be established at Durgapur Project Ltd. Campus, Durgapur, it added. With these, the total value of the order aggregates to about INR 3,126 crore.
The projects must be completed within 18 months from signing the Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA). The contract duration is for 15 years with a provision for extension up to 5 years from schedule commissioning date.
Commenting on the BESS contract, Sajja Kishore Babu, Chairman and Managing Director, Power Mech Projects, said, “As India crosses the monumental threshold where renewable energy exceeds 50 percent of our installed capacity, green energy is the next great challenge. We need advanced peak-shaving solutions to balance the grid and ensure that the transition to ‘Green’ does not compromise ‘Reliable’. This BESS project is far more than a commercial win; it is the first concrete step in our vision to provide that equilibrium.”
He further added, “While PM Green is taking its foundational steps today, it carries the decades of ‘Execution Power’ and the 'vast engineering legacy' of Power Mech. Winning a project of this scale as our debut in energy storage solutions is a powerful testimony to our capabilities to handle large and complex projects.”
He asserted that the company is building a future where clean energy is available round-the-clock, reliable, and accessible. “This project demonstrates our capability in the power sector as we expand into a new energy vertical, and it serves as a bold preview of what we aim to achieve in the years ahead,” he said.
