PM Surya Ghar Crosses 39.38 Lakh Rooftop Solar Installations, Capacity Reaches 14.07 GW

The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana has achieved over 39.38 lakh rooftop solar installations across India, taking the cumulative installed capacity to approximately 14.07 GW as of July 20, 2026.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy's (MNRE) flagship PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY) has crossed 39.38 lakh rooftop solar installations across the country, with a cumulative installed capacity of about 14.07 GW, as of July 20, 2026.

The scheme has benefitted around 47,64,657 households, and an amount of about INR 27,323.55 crore has been disbursed as Central Financial Assistance (CFA) to the beneficiaries, stated Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. The scheme has received 76.47 lakh applications.

Gujarat continues to lead the country with 7,55,882 installations, accounting for 2,831.86 MW of rooftop solar capacity. The state has disbursed subsidies worth INR 5,597.04 crore and received over 11.64 lakh applications.

Uttar Pradesh has moved ahead of Maharashtra in terms of installations, recording 6,84,592 rooftop solar systems with an installed capacity of 2,307.77 MW. The state has received 11.51 lakh applications and released subsidies worth INR 4,652.73 crore.

Maharashtra ranks third with 6,79,303 installations and 2,494.04 MW of installed capacity. The state has attracted the highest number of applications at 14.32 lakh, while subsidy disbursement has reached INR 5,017.02 crore.

Among the other leading states, Kerala has achieved 2,99,065 installations (1,158.89 MW), followed by Rajasthan with 2,65,022 installations (1,022.10 MW) and Andhra Pradesh with 2,36,286 installations (740.68 MW).

States such as Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Odisha, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, and Uttarakhand have each crossed the one lakh installation mark, reflecting the expanding adoption of residential rooftop solar across the country.

Launched in February 2024 with a total financial outlay of INR 75,021 crore, PM Surya Ghar Yojana aims to install rooftop solar (RTS) systems in one crore residential households across the country by FY 2026-27.
