In Karnataka, a total of 5,013 applications were received for availing bank loan under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, out of which 3,176 applications were sanctioned and 2787 disbursed as on July 15, 2025, stated Shripad Yesso Naik, the Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, and Power in the Rajya Sabha.

He further added that the process of availing loan for installation of rooftop solar under the PMSG: MBY is simplified through the integration of National Portal with JanSamarth Portal. “The residential consumers can avail collateral free loan from Nationalized Banks at concessional interest rate of repo rate plus 50 bps i.e. current rate at 6 percent per annum with 10 years tenure,” he said.

Talking about the progress of the rooftop solar scheme in Karnataka, Naik shared that a total of 2,21,456 applications have been received on the PMSG National Portal and 14,216 Rooftop solar installations have been completed as on May 31, 2025.

“It is a demand driven scheme, wherein all residential consumers in the country having grid-connected electricity connection of the local DISCOM can avail the benefits of the scheme by applying on the National Portal of the scheme,” stated Naik.

He further added that the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and REC, as the National Programme Implementing Agency (NPIA), for PMSG-MBY, work in close coordination with all the State Nodal Agencies and State DISCOMs, including Karnataka. “Further, MNRE and Karnataka have signed an MoU in September 2024, to facilitate rooftop solar installations under the PMSG: MBY in the state,” he said.
