Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple development initiatives totaling INR 15,000 crore in Krishnanagar, Nadia district, West Bengal. The projects span across vital sectors such as power, rail, and road infrastructure, aiming to foster regional growth and prosperity.

Among the significant unveilings, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of the Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station Phase II (2x660 MW) situated in Raghunathpur, Purulia district.

This coal-based thermal power project, operated by the Damodar Valley Corporation, incorporates cutting-edge supercritical technology for enhanced efficiency. Emphasizing the pivotal role of electricity in driving development, PM Modi underscored the government's commitment to bolstering West Bengal's energy self-sufficiency.

The Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station Phase II is poised to attract over INR 11,000 crore in investments, addressing the state's energy requirements while catalyzing economic progress in the region.

Additionally, PM Modi inaugurated the Flue gas desulfurization (FGD) system for Units 7 and 8 of Mejia Thermal Power Station. Developed at an estimated cost of INR 650 crore, this advanced system is designed to eliminate sulphur dioxide from flue gases, yielding clean emissions and producing gypsum, a valuable byproduct for the cement industry.

Highlighting India's commitment to environmental sustainability, PM Modi cited the FGD system as a testament to the nation's proactive stance on tackling environmental challenges.
