Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a move to bolster the renewable energy sector and provide financial relief to the poor and middle class, chaired a meeting to inaugurate the 'Pradhanmantri Suryodaya Yojana.' The scheme sets a target of installing rooftop solar panels on 1 crore houses across the nation.
PM Modi on social media platform X said “Today, on the auspicious occasion of the consecration of life in Ayodhya, my resolve has been further strengthened that the people of India should have their own solar rooftop system on the roof of their houses. The first decision I have taken after returning from Ayodhya is that our government will launch 'Pradhanmantri Suryodaya Yojana' with the target of installing rooftop solar on 1 crore houses.
The Prime Minister, who recently visited Ayodhya for the consecration of Shri Ram temple, emphasized the potential of harnessing solar power at the grassroots level.
Speaking from his residence at Lok Kalyan Marg, he highlighted the scheme's dual objectives: reducing electricity bills for households and fostering self-reliance in the energy sector.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister articulated, "The power of the sun can be harnessed by every household with a roof to reduce their electricity bills and to make them truly aatmanirbhar for their electricity needs."
The 'Pradhanmantri Suryodaya Yojana' specifically targets low and middle-income individuals, aiming to provide them with electricity through solar rooftop installations. Additionally, the scheme offers the potential for generating additional income through surplus electricity production.
Prime Minister urged immediate action by directing the initiation of a massive national campaign. The campaign aims to mobilize residential segment consumers to embrace rooftop solar technology on a large scale.
