Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over INR 53,400 crore in Bhuj, Gujarat, covering sectors such as infrastructure, energy, and tourism.
The projects encompass power sector initiatives like transmission works to evacuate renewable energy from the Khavda Renewable Energy Park, expansion of the transmission network, and an ultra-supercritical thermal power plant unit at Tapi. They also include developments at Kandla Port, as well as various road, water, and solar projects by the Government of Gujarat.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister described Kutch as a shining example of resilience and determination, recalling the region’s transformation since the 2001 earthquake into a hub for trade, tourism, and renewable energy. He credited this progress to the spirit of the people and sustained developmental efforts.
“Kutch is emerging as the world’s largest hub for green energy," said PM Modi. A major highlight was the foundation stone-laying of a new green hydrogen plant in the region. PM Modi referred to green hydrogen as the 'fuel of the future' and emphasised that the plant would use entirely indigenous technology. He noted that Kandla has been identified as one of three designated green hydrogen hubs in the country, reaffirming Kutch’s strategic role in India’s clean energy roadmap.
The Prime Minister also spotlighted the construction of one of the world’s largest solar energy projects in Khavda, which will play a key role in powering Gujarat and further establishing Kutch on the global energy map. He reiterated the importance of such initiatives in helping India emerge as a global leader in sustainable energy.
PM Modi mentioned the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, under which lakhs of households in Gujarat are benefiting from reduced electricity bills, highlighting the government’s focus on inclusive energy access at the grassroots level.
