Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a major renewable energy and power sector push for Odisha, unveiling plans to develop Pahadpur village in Mayurbhanj district as a model Solar Village with solar power generation in every household and highlighting investments of over INR 6,000 crore in the state's power sector.

The announcement came during a programme marking two years of the Odisha government under the theme 'Vikas ra Dhara, Odisha Sara', where Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth more than INR 47,600 crore.

Accompanied by President Droupadi Murmu, the Prime Minister visited Pahadpur village and said that the proposed Solar Village would draw inspiration from Odisha's iconic Sun Temple at Konark. He added that the initiative could emerge as a national model for solar-powered rural development by ensuring clean energy access in every household.

Emphasising Odisha's growing role in India's energy transition, Modi said that the state is attracting significant investments in energy, green energy, semiconductors and modern industries under the Centre's vision of "Development of Eastern India for the Development of India". He said the projects would strengthen infrastructure, improve public services and create new economic opportunities across the state.

The Prime Minister also said that Odisha has received investment proposals worth nearly INR 20 lakh crore under the Utkarsh Odisha initiative, while projects worth over INR 3.5 lakh crore are already under implementation. He added that more than INR 6,000 crore is being invested in the power sector, alongside efforts to accelerate urban development through the Samruddha City Scheme.

The renewable energy and power sector announcements formed a key part of the government's broader strategy to position Odisha as a major hub for clean energy, industrial development and sustainable economic growth in eastern India.
