Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged Swedish and European companies to expand investments in India’s clean energy, manufacturing and advanced technology sectors during interactions with business leaders in Gothenburg, Sweden, highlighting the country’s rapid economic reforms and growing investment opportunities.
Addressing the European Round Table for Industry (ERT), Modi said that India’s governance reforms, infrastructure expansion and young workforce have positioned the country as a leading global destination for investment and innovation.
“In the last 12 years, India has been working on the basic mantra of reforms, performance, and transformation. And with the government’s political will, this Reform Express is moving forward at full speed,” he said.
The Prime Minister invited European companies to deepen collaboration in sectors such as green hydrogen, clean energy, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, electronics, telecom, healthcare, mobility and advanced manufacturing. He said India aims to emerge as a global hub for innovation and research and development.
Modi said that the next generation of technological innovation should be co-created in India and assured European businesses that institutional mechanisms could be developed to support their participation in India’s flagship projects.
The interaction was attended by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and senior executives from Indian and European companies. The event was hosted by Volvo Group.
Highlighting the recently concluded India-European Union Free Trade Agreement negotiations, Modi described the pact as a transformative partnership expected to create opportunities in trade, manufacturing, services and resilient supply chains.
He also referred to the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), saying the initiative would strengthen connectivity and economic ties between India and Europe.
During a separate interaction with Swedish business leaders, Modi called for greater cooperation in sustainable mobility, green transition, defence, critical minerals and digital technologies. He reiterated India’s “Design for India, Make in India and Export from India” vision and encouraged Swedish companies to participate in initiatives such as the National Green Hydrogen Mission and the National Critical Mineral Mission.
