Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the International Energy Agency’s Ministerial Meeting, commending the organization on its 50th anniversary and expressing gratitude to Ireland and France for co-chairing the event.

Highlighting the importance of energy security and sustainability for continued growth, PM Modi showcased India's remarkable economic progress, transforming from the 11th largest to the 5th largest economy in just one decade. He also mentioned a twenty-six fold growth recorded in India’s solar energy capacity during the same period, while also doubling the nation’s renewable energy capacity. “We exceeded our Paris commitments in this regard, ahead of timelines,” PM Modi added.

Despite being home to 17 percent of the global population, India's carbon emissions constitute only 4 percent of the total global emissions. PM Modi reiterated India’s dedication to combating climate change through collective action and said, “India has already led initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance. Our Mission LiFE focuses on pro-planet lifestyle choices for a collective impact. ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’ is a part of India’s traditional way of life.”

PM Modi thanked the IEA for supporting India's initiatives, including the launch of the Global Biofuels Alliance during India’s G20 Presidency. He emphasized the importance of inclusivity in enhancing the credibility and capability of institutions, highlighting India's vast talent pool of 1.4 billion citizens capable of contributing to global energy solutions.

In closing, PM Modi conveyed his best wishes for the success of the IEA Ministerial Meeting, urging stakeholders to strengthen existing partnerships and forge new ones to build a cleaner, greener, and inclusive world.
