PM KUSUM Scheme Installs 13.11 GW by March 2026, PPA Projects Extended Until March 2027

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM KUSUM) has installed 13.11 GW of solar capacity as of March 31, 2026, against the scheme's overall target of adding 34.8 GW, according to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

The information was provided by Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Power Shripad Yesso Naik in response to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha.

Launched in March 2019 and scaled up in January 2024, PM KUSUM aims to add 34.8 GW of renewable energy capacity with financial support of Rs. 34,422 crore. The government has extended the implementation timeline until March 2027 for projects where power purchase agreements were signed by December 31, 2025.

Under Component A, the government has allocated 10,000 MW based on demand from states. As of December 31, 2025, power purchase agreements had been signed for 9,871 MW, while 1,726.92 MW had been installed by June 30, 2026.

The latest state and component wise data shows that Rajasthan has the highest sanctioned capacity under Component A at 5,618 MW, followed by Telangana with 1,797 MW and Madhya Pradesh with 1,401 MW. However, installed capacity stood at 1,236.05 MW in Rajasthan, 79 MW in Telangana and 201.66 MW in Madhya Pradesh.

In Odisha, 90 MW has been sanctioned under Component A, while only 2 MW has been installed. Under Component B, the state has 18,441 sanctioned installations, of which 15,780 have been installed. Under Component C, 5,223 installations have been sanctioned under the feeder level solarisation category, but none had been installed as of June 30, 2026.

The government also addressed concerns over Odisha's limited presence in high energy solar PV manufacturing despite its mineral resources and port infrastructure. It said companies receiving awards under the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for High Efficiency Solar PV Modules are free to establish manufacturing facilities anywhere in India, including Odisha.

According to the ministry, manufacturers determine plant locations based on commercial and business considerations such as land availability, industrial infrastructure, reliable and cost competitive electricity, logistics, skilled manpower, proximity to suppliers and markets, and ease of doing business.
