Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (REC) has been appointed as the nodal agency for the implementation of the Pradhanmantri Suryodaya Yojana. However, rather than directly financing household rooftop solar installations, REC will extend funds to Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) allocated to states across India. This move is aimed at promoting the widespread adoption of rooftop solar systems.

Eight key CPSEs have been identified for this initiative, including NTPC, NHPC, Power Grid, SECI, SJVN, THDC, NEEPCO, and EESL. These entities will play a crucial role in installing solar systems in various regions, contributing to the government's ambitious renewable energy goals.

Moreover, the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has received a distinct responsibility under the Suryodaya Yojana. PGCIL will oversee the implementation of Rooftop Solar Systems in small households in eight states, operating under the Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) mode.

The states allocated to PGCIL for this initiative are Rajasthan, Gujarat, Odisha, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Ladakh, Puducherry, and Lakshadweep. This distribution highlights the widespread nature of the program, encompassing diverse regions across the country.

To kickstart the process, PGCIL will soon float tenders for vendor empanelment, seeking qualified entities for Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC), or Installation and Commissioning (I&C) services.

Consumers opting for this initiative stand to benefit, receiving a portion of the installed capacity for free, with the possibility of earning rental income annually based on the size of the solar project on their rooftops.

As the government continues to roll out initiatives aimed at reducing carbon footprints, the Pradhanmantri Suryodaya Yojana emerges as a crucial step towards achieving a greener and more sustainable future.
