Petroleum Minister Applauds Innovations at IEW 2024, Highlights India's Energy Advances

The second edition of India Energy Week 2024, held in Goa, received accolades from Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Housing & Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, for its showcase of cutting-edge technology and innovations in the energy sector. Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the event, Minister Puri commended several notable exhibits, including a 'Tamper-Proof' cooking gas cylinder equipped with a QR code and a diesel engine tailored for the US market.
Highlighting India's strides in the energy sector, Minister Puri emphasized the significance of biofuels, noting the impressive demonstration of sustainable aviation fuel derived from cooking oil and vegetable oils. "The biofuel story resonates very strongly in the exhibits showcased here," he remarked.
Minister Puri also lauded India's achievement of reaching 12 percent ethanol blending with petrol, surpassing the target five months ahead of schedule. This success prompted the government to revise the ethanol blending target to 20 percent by 2025. "The next generation will be electric and ethanol," Minister Puri predicted, underlining the country's commitment to alternative and cleaner energy sources.
In a separate announcement, Minister Puri declared Goa as a kerosene-free state, applauding the state government's efforts in achieving this milestone. "I want to congratulate the government of Goa for attaining freedom from kerosene reliance," he declared.
Quoting insights from the International Energy Agency (IEA) report unveiled at the India Energy Week 2024, Minister Puri highlighted a significant projection. According to the report, India is poised to surpass China as the world's largest source of oil demand growth, marking a crucial development in the global energy landscape.
