PepsiCo India, a global consumer packaged goods company, has revealed plans for an investment of INR 1266 crore in India to establish a cutting-edge flavor manufacturing facility in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.
Spread across 22 acres, the new manufacturing facility is poised to operate entirely on renewable energy sources, showcasing PepsiCo’s dedication to reducing its carbon footprint. The implementation of renewable energy sources is expected to lead to a reduction of 1.9 metric tons of carbon emissions per day, setting new benchmarks for eco-conscious operations in the region.
Jagrut Kotecha, Chief Executive Officer of PepsiCo India and South Asia, expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the company's collaboration with the government of Madhya Pradesh. "Bolstering the 'Make in India' vision, the new flavour manufacturing facility will champion sustainability, aligning with our ‘Winning with pep+’ philosophy, creating a positive value chain while delivering on our promise of continuous innovation in our products. Through meaningful engagement, our goal is to work towards comprehensive development, contributing to the holistic advancement and welfare of the communities we serve,” he said.
George Kovoor, Senior Vice President of Beverages at PepsiCo India, echoed Kotecha's sentiments, stating, “We are excited to announce the setting-up of our second flavour manufacturing facility in India, a significant testament to PepsiCo's unwavering commitment to the region. We aim to ramp up the production of our beverages to meet the rising demand in the country. This strategic investment not only strengthens our dedication to providing the highest quality beverages to our consumers but also reinforces our responsibility to drive sustainable practices across our operations.”
The Ujjain facility will employ Zero Liquid Discharge technology, aiming for approximately 90 percent overall water efficiency. This technology ensures responsible management of water resources, with the plant committed to replenishing 100 percent of the water used onsite, further emphasizing PepsiCo’s commitment to water sustainability.
