SJVN’s auction to develop a 375 MW/1,500 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Uttar Pradesh under a build-own-operate model has discovered an L1 (lowest bid) tariff of INR 3.59 lakh/MW/month.

Patel Infrastructure and Enerica Infra 3 (EnerGrid) have emerged as winners, with both securing a capacity of 187.5 MW/750 MWh each. While Patel Infrastructure quoted a tariff of INR 3,59,000/MW/month, Enerica Infra 3 quoted a tariff of INR 3,59,999/MW/month.

The tender for this was floated in February 2025.

SJVN will enter into a battery energy storage purchase agreement (BESPA) with the selected bidder(s) for a period of 20 years.

The project is eligible for Viability Gap Funding (VGF) of up to INR 27 lakh/MWh or 30 percent of the capital cost, whichever is lower.

Developers are responsible for end-to-end project execution, including design, finance, procurement, construction, operation, and maintenance, while adhering to grid standards, safety norms, and technical benchmarks.

Each BESS must provide one four-hour operational cycle daily, maintain 95 percent minimum monthly availability, and meet a monthly AC-to-AC round-trip efficiency of at least 85 percent.

The projects are required to be designed for interconnection with the designated InSTS substation at UPPTCL 400kV/ 220 kV Garautha Sub Station in Jhansi district of UP, for injection at a voltage level of 220 kV.

Land identification and allocation for the project land will be under the scope of UPPCL/UPPTCL.

The tender promotes only commercially established and operational technologies to minimise the technology risk and to achieve timely commissioning of the projects. The projects must be commissioned within 18 months of signing the Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with SJVN.
