Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam’s (RVUNL) auction for developing 500 MW/2,000 MWh standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Rajasthan has attracted an L1 (lowest bid) tariff of INR 2.85 lakh/MW/month.

Six developers have emerged winners with all quoting a uniform tariff of INR 2.85 lakh/MW/month. Patanjali Ayurved has secured the largest share at 250 MW/1,000 MWh. Ultravibrant Solar Energy, Rama Reflection India, Mecpower Solutions, Bhagwati Lacto Vegetarian Exports, and Diwakar Renewable and Infra (Diwakar Solar) have secured 50 MW/200 MWh each, at the same tariff.

The tender for this was floated in August 2025.

The projects will be set up under a build, own and operate (BOO) model. The projects are eligible for viability gap funding (VGF) support of 18 lakh/MWh, payable in three tranches.

The projects must be located in Rajasthan and will be connected to the State Transmission Utility. Land, if available, shall be provided by RVUNL on actual charges. "Alternatively, the BESS developers may also arrange their own land; in such case, RVUNL shall extend necessary support for its identification and acquisition," mentioned the tender.

The BESSD shall be required to set up a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), with the primary objective of making the energy storage facility available to RVUNL for charging/discharging of the BESS, on an 'on-demand' basis.

Setting up the BESS and interconnection of the BESS with the STU networks, including the construction of the Bay, will be under the scope of the BESSD. "Charging and discharging schedule of the BESS system will be under the scope of RVUNL/RUVITL. The BESS shall be charged by drawing power from RVPN/DISCOMs and discharged by injecting power into the RVPN/DISCOMS network," it noted.
