Japanese multinational Panasonic has announced discontinuing its solar and energy storage business in the North America region. The company shared this update on its website – www.solar.na.panasonic.com.
Naoki Kamo, President of Panasonic Eco Systems North America has shared the update with North American installation partners in a letter date April 28, 2025, a copy of which is uploaded on Reddit by an installer.
“We have made the decision to discontinue our solar and battery storage business line. This change allows us to focus on areas where we can have the greatest strategic impact. We remain confident in the technology and grateful to our partners and customers who have supported this journey,” the company mentioned in its website.
However, the company has committed to a smooth transition and will continue to provide customer support to existing customers, as well as future customers who are undergoing installations and commissioning.
“Please rest assured that all warranties will be honoured for both installed products and those not yet installed. Where third-party warranties apply, we will continue to support our customers by providing clear direction and points of contact,” it mentioned.
Panasonic's journey into the solar industry began in the 1970s with a focus on research and development. A pivotal moment came in 2009 with the acquisition of Sanyo Electric, which had pioneered Heterojunction with Intrinsic Thin layer (HIT) solar cell technology. This innovation became the cornerstone of Panasonic's solar module offerings. By leveraging HIT technology, Panasonic strengthened its position in the residential and commercial solar markets, especially across Japan, North America, and Europe.
