Panaji to Emerge as a Solar City With Surplus Solar Power

Goa’s government is dedicated to producing 150 MW of renewable energy in the coming two years and will be installing 100 MW solar power plants all across Goa.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who is also chairman of the Energy Development Agency (GEDA),declared that the government has put a goal to announce Panaji city as a solar city in the subsequent two years.

CM Sawant said “Govt has set a target to declare Panaji as a Solar city in the next two years. The power requirement for Panaji is 80 MW. It gives me immense pleasure to announce this solar city initiative”.

He also mentioned about the state government has inked a memorandum of understanding to develop nation’s first convergence project to produce green energy for rural and agriculture utilisation and it will soon introduce the feasible and affordable clean power project.

The Goa government has working towards the objective to obtain 100 percent renewable energy consumption throughout all sectors in the state by 2050.

The aspirational objective is aniticipated to generate around 15,000 additional jobs, with 500 jobs each year contributed solely to the solar and wind energy production sector.
